Xbox Account App Password

After you turn on two-step verification or set up the Authenticator app, you may run into issues if you use apps or older devices (like Windows Phone 8 and Xbox 360) that don't support two-step verification.. If you have two-step verification turned on and an app isn't prompting you to enter a security code when you sign in, you may be able to sign in with an app password instead.

If you forgot your password, either select Forgot my password and follow the steps. Or, for deeper account sign-in issues, see How to reset your Microsoft account password. Once you've signed in, select Security. Select Password security. Type your current password, then type a new password and type it again to verify. Select Save.

If you've set up two-step verification to protect your Microsoft account, it won't be long before you attempt to sign in to a Microsoft app or your old Xbox 360 with your account name and password.

Under App passwords, click the Create a new app password link. On the app or device make sure to update the password with the new one. Repeat the previous steps to create an app password for each.

Follow these steps to recover and reset your Microsoft account password. You can only sign in to the Xbox Console Companion app with one Microsoft account at a time. However, you can switch between different Microsoft accounts. To switch to a different Microsoft account:

Tip: Don’t create an App Password unless the app or device you want to connect to your account doesn’t have “Sign in with Google.” When you use 2-Step Verification, some less secure apps or devices may be blocked from accessing your Google Account. App Passwords are a way to let the blocked app or device access your Google Account.
